You'll be responsible for:

This position is one of two leadership superintendent positions. Currently, this position oversees Sports, Sports Advisory Committee, RC Sports Center, Marketing, Events, Community Outreach/Sponsorships, Field Rentals, Park Ranger Program, Park Shelters, Contract Classes, Military Banner Program, and Fulltime Staff Development. Based on the selected candidate's skill sets, department reorganization is a possibility. Immediate projects ahead for this position will include analysis of field allocations, support in developing a cost of service assessment, develop and facilitate a variety of staff development resources and assessing current programs and services, and recommending how to move forward during and after COVID-19.

ARE YOU QUALIFIED

Education and/or Experience:

Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in recreation administration, public administration or business administration, or a related field. Five years of increasingly responsible recreation program experience including two years of supervisory and administrative responsibility.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Operational characteristics, services and activities of a comprehensive recreation program; principles of municipal budget preparation and control; principles of supervision, training and performance evaluation; pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes and regulations; modern office procedures, methods and computer equipment; modern principles and practices of recreation program development and administration; recent developments, current literature and sources of information related to recreation services, planning and administration; public relations principles and techniques; manage and coordinate the work of supervisory, technical and clerical personnel; organize, direct and implement recreation programs suited to the needs of the community; elicit community and organizational support for recreation programs; ensure program compliance with Federal, State and local rules, laws regulations; select, supervise, train and evaluate staff; perform responsible and difficult work involving the use of independent judgment and personal initiative; understand the organization and operation of the City and of outside agencies as necessary to assume assigned responsibilities; interpret and apply administrative and department policies and procedures; coordinate and compile information and statistics into complete records and reports; operate and use modern office equipment including a computer; work cooperatively with other departments, City officials and outside agencies; analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions and implement recommendations in support of goals; communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work including a variety of City and other government officials, community groups, and the general public.

  • Retirement - California Public Employee's Retirement System (CalPERS)

  • Deferred Compensation - 4% of base salary. City will match up to $50 per month and 1% of monthly base salary per month

  • Administrative Leave - 75 hours per fiscal year
  • Vacation - 80 hours per year increasing to 180 hours after 15 years of service. Buyback option of up to 200 hours per fiscal year.
