Job Description:

We are experts at recreating wild and heritage flavors using plant-based sources. We now want to become experts at ensuring the longevity of those delicious flavors in our plant-based heritage meats, and that's where Ewe (yes, you) come in. We are looking for a food technologist to assist with quality control and assurance procedures during production.In this role, you will work closely with the operations team at our production facility in Rancho Cucamonga, CA to develop and implement new and existing products, provide technical expertise in process development for product line growth and technology, and implement technical solutions to achieve business goals.Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical leadership in product and process development and improvement, including implementing quality control system procedures. Manage ongoing production in the facility.
  • Collaborate with research and commercial brands to develop short and long-term testing programs for experimental and commercial products and hybrids.
  • Implement quality control procedures, ensuring new products comply with the expectations of Consumers, Clients, Marketing, and Sales.
  • Document process variables and develop SOPs and critical control points for the process.
  • Conduct inspections at every step of the operation and report any deficiencies to the QA department. This includes receiving raw materials and operations during processing and packaging.
  • Enforce quality assurance policies, such as GMP and sanitation, in all areas of production.
  • Track and analyze lab results for new products, including monitoring the upper and lower limits for specific parameters (e.g., % salt, % fat, % protein).
  • Enforce the Product's Standard Technical Instructions (STI), the standardized recipe for a given SKU, to ensure a product with optimal quality.
  • Partner with sales, business management, and marketing partners to identify customer needs and translate these into process development opportunities.
  • Independently handle complex issues with minimal supervision, while escalating only the most complex issues to appropriate staff.Qualifications:
    • Bachelor's/ Master's degree in meat science, food science, or another related field.
    • Minimum of two-four years related work experience in research and development.
    • Professional experience in product development, quality, and alternative protein product development.
    • Prior experience in meat/food processing, alternative meat processing, or experience formulating with functional ingredients.
    • Extrusion experience or protein fermentation experience is a plus.
    • Experience conducting work in a pilot plant and manufacturing environment.
    • Meticulous and detail-oriented.
    • Ability to travel as required.
    • Experience working at co-manufacturers is a plus.
