Job Description:
Job Summary:Under general supervision, perform routine and
highly specialized diagnostic and therapeutic interventional
radiology procedures on patients following established
parameters/protocols for use by physicians in diagnosis and
treatment of pathologies. Assist in maintaining a smooth
operational flow and maximum patient volume. The interventional
technologist assumes many roles such as: Scrub in and assist the
physician in the surgical procedure, circulate within the procedure
room and procure all equipment needed for any given procedure.
Position the patients properly, select radiation exposure
parameters and image the patient. Maintain a high degree of
accuracy and awareness of all radiation and patient safety issues
involved with any invasive procedure. Demonstrate a thorough
understanding and working knowledge of normal anatomy, abnormal
anatomy and physiology, radiation safety, interventional supplies
and equipment operation. Recognize and resolve equipment
operations. Recognize and resolve equipment problems and
discrepancies, anticipate patient needs and concerns and determine
the appropriate care needed. Use professional judgment and critical
thinking when performing procedures. Will be required to take
standby.Essential Responsibilities:This description is for

review and approval.--- Comprehensive knowledge of radiology
principles and practices including anatomy and physiology,
radiation protection and physics, radiographic positioning,
surgical and nursing procedures.--- Ability to operate all
radiographic/fluoroscopic, interventional radiology and, associated
surgical, and image processing equipment.--- Ability to demonstrate
knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the
age of the patients served.--- Demonstrate knowledge of the
principles of growth and development over the life span and possess
the ability to assess data reflective of the patients requirements
relative to age-specific needs, and, provide the care needed as
described in the unit and/or area department policies and
procedures.--- Ability to use computer systems to manage patient
information.--- Effective verbal and written communication
skills.--- Consistently demonstrates the knowledge, skills,
abilities, and behaviors necessary to provide superior and
culturally sensitive service to each other, to our members, and to
customers, contracted providers, and vendors.--- Demonstrates an
understanding of the cognitive, physical, emotional and
chronological maturation process in delivery of services to
patients of the age group served.--- Identifies the impact of
cultural diversity and lifestyle choices on patient condition and
makes accommodations for such differences.--- Utilizes proper Body
Mechanics.--- Documents clinical activities and required image
information in a timely, comprehensive, and accurate manner.---
Observes all organizational, regional, medical service area and
Diagnostic Imaging Department policies and procedures.--- Maintains
standards of professional behavior established to enhance quality
of service.--- Demonstrates effective communication skills.---
Demonstrates professional behavior in all interactions with
patients and staff.--- Maintains equipment, supplies and work area
in accordance with department guidelines.--- May perform other
duties as required and assigned.Notes:
- Minimum three (3) years of recent experience (within the last 12
months) as a Radiologic Technologist, including one (1) year of
recent experience in Interventional Radiology (IR). May substitute
one (1) year of IR experience with successful completion of the
departments formal IR training program. Education
